IMPORTANT: Place the heart-shaped on a rack. Ice the sheet cake (but NOT the heart-shaped yet). Turn your Wafer Paper picture over and spread CLEAR Piping Gel on the back. Mark the icing with the pan, Carefully centering, place the picture on the iced 12x18 cake.
Diagram 1: Cut out the center of the un-iced 12-inch heart-shaped cake to the point that the hole is as big (or a little bigger) than the Wafer Paper picture. The pattern below should be enlarged a little and fit nicely in about a 7-inch heart opening. Slide the heart-shaped cake onto the 12x18 centered, so that the Wafer Paper pattern will show down inside. Ice the heart-shaped cake and decorate.
PATTERN FOR PIPING GEL PICTURE:
SKETCH SHOWN ABOVE:
Pearl Strand...Pearls aren't on
the real cake, but if you can't do that border,
maybe you can do one that has a
double ruffle (tip #70) to add them to in the center.
TIP: Place pearls on as soon
as you add the ruffle so icing will still be sticky.
Diagram above: 12" Heart Cake:
Cutting out the heart:
Cut out about a 7" heart-shaped opening as shown above. Discard center cake.
*Transferring onto cake will be much
easier if you have turned the heart cake out onto a plastic wrap-covered
cardboard to cool.
Then you can slide the cut out heart
cake onto the 12x18", removing the plastic wrap (from underneath) as you
go.
*Wedding cake decorators will recognize this as the same method as used for transferring large wedding cake layers).
THE FINISHED CAKE
TIP: Use THINNED icing for
the cut inside of the heart cake so you won’t pull off crumbs on the cake.
Also, use a thin-bladed spatula
for icing the cut cake.
