Instructions below

1. Use a piece of gumpaste, fondant, or candy clay about the size of a tennis ball

2. I first will roll about 1/2 of the dough thru my pasta machine to a medium thickness (#4) or roll your fondant to approx 14 in. thickness

 3. You could also use a pizza roller-cutter or knife to cut the strips. Take two strips out to be the bow tails and then cut 2 strips in half to make thin little loops for fill-ins

4. Hang the loops over a dowel or large stick such as a broom handle (about 1in wide)

5. Wet the ends a little and press them together to form a point. Allow all the pieces to dry for about 24 hours.

6. Paint or brush with a Colored Dust or Super Pearl Dust for an extra sparkle. This one was painted using Silver Highlighter Dust.

7. In a plastic bowl that is about the size as the top of your cake place a piece of wax paper with a glob of soft chocolate coating or royal icing for your "glue"

8. Place the bottom row of loops in the bowl with some on their side and some flat. Add more "glue" to the top of the ends and add another layer.

9. Keep repeating until you get the fullness and look you want

10. Allow the "glue" to dry and then remove the bow my placing your hand on top of it and slowly flipping into your hand and then flipping it top side up.
USING THE BOW MAKER
By Geraldine Randlesome:

Using royal icing or melted white confectionery chocolate coating, assemble the bow from the dried loops. Place each loop, working around the bow from the bottom up.

[ making the bow ]
Assemble the multi-ribbon cutter to create i-inch wide strips. Snap together the wavy cutting edge wheel and the stitching embosser wheel. Thread two of these assemblies onto the spindle with a large spacer between them and a small spacer to the outside of each. Add the locking nut, but not too tightly, as the wheels must turn freely.
Lightly dust the work surface with cornstarch. Roll out a thin sheet of sugarpaste, at least io inches long, and use the assembled cutter to roll the entire length of the paste.
4 Using the palette knife, trim the ribbon to between 9 and io inches long. Hang the strip over a cornstarch-dusted wooden dowel or rolling pin. Brush a small amount of water near the bottom of the ribbon, piece the ends together, and trim to form a point. Make 5 loops in each color (red, blue, yellow, orange, green and purple). Allow the loops to dry, preferably for a few days.
