This cake shows several examples
of what you can do with rolled fondant and gum paste.
The cake is 12 x 18-inch covered
with rolled fondant icing.
FAIRIES:
The fairies are formed from gum paste
on thread-fine wires.
Their ‘hair’ is royal icing. They were
dressed in gum paste clothes. The fairies’ ‘wings’ are made of plain gelatin
on a fine wire frame-shape, tinted with food coloring, let dry, remove
wire frame, and fasten to the fairy with a dab of royal icing.
WINGS: 1/4 cup cold water and 2
teaspoons plain gelatin, food coloring.
OTHER DECORATIONS
The rocks are pieces of fondant
The colorful ‘path’ is flat pieces of
fondant coated with special dust using egg white so it adheres.
All the flowers are gumpaste on fine
flower stamens.
All the ‘gold’ has been painted with
a mixture of gold petal dust mixed with a dab of cooking oil.
Lace points were made with tip #00 and
dries ahead of time.
Curtains and lace work at bottom of
cake are tip #00
This cake is the result of my studies
with Angela Priddy of South Africa.
Angela has a wonderful book showing
some really innovative ideas using gum paste and other fine mediums.
