Per customer request....some of my students knew I had these and requested that I add them.
Of course you can use royal icing, color flow or gumpaste to make your butterflies from these patterns.
TIP: When using royal icing, it is better to use the color flow mix for added strength. The alternative is to make egg white royal - recipe below.

Using royal icing:
Place desired pattern under wax paper. Secure with tape.
Tip #1 Outline the entire butterfly - I always just outlined Pattern 2 - not filled in.
Tip #1 Fill in with appropriate colors using color flow icing, if desired.
Let dry several hours or overnight.
Carefully remove wings from wax paper.
Tip #2 Make a body on wax paper.
Press one wing at a time into the body and prop using a cotton ball
Attach 2 stamens for antennae.
Let dry a few hours or overnight.
Can be attached using any icing. Buttercream works just fine.
Optional Products:
Piping gel
Food coloring

Hold finished butterflies by their antennae if they are very delicate.
Make extras to allow for breakage.
Can sprinkle edible glitter on them for glisten. But first, use a rolling pin and crush it between wax paper so it is super fine.
Adding a very small amount of piping gel to the royal icing strengthens. Maybe 1/2 teaspoon per recipe using 1 pound conf. sugar. Don't add too much or it may take several days for them to dry.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not have instructions for you using gumpaste.
