The

using the
Easy
Rose #90, 3 inch all-in-one cutter along with the small rose cones
#C600
The first stage is preparing the cone, make a hole or slit using the knife tool in the base of the cone. Take a 229 wire, (189 for a large rose) make a hook on one end. Put a little hot glue on this end and insert into the base of the rose cone to secure it.
Roll out the gumpaste thinly. Cut out the blossom shape using either the 90 mm or 110 mm cutter Soften the edges slightly on the CelPad (soft side,) using a Medium pin.
Place on a piece of soft foam and cup each petal using the rounded end of a medium pin, (XL pin for large rose.) On the same side cup in the center. Place on piece of thin foam. Brush egg white over the cone. Push this down through the center until it comes to sit in the center of the petals.
You will have five petals facing you. Choose one petal as Number 1 and wrap this around the cone, making sure that you cover the cone completely at the top. Then, working clockwise, the second row will be petals Numbers 3 and 5. These are stuck in a spiral. And finally, the third row, Numbers 2 and 4 are stuck straight up. This is the bud stage.
Roll out some more paste. Cut out, soften edges as above. Turn over, cup petals Numbers 1 and 3. Turn over and cup petals 2, 4 and 5, then turn back over and cup in the middle, so petals Numbers 1 and 3 cup up towards you, and Numbers 2, 4 and 5 cup away from you. Stick onto the base of the bud by placing onto the thin foam square. Brush the base with egg white and pull down through until the bud sits into the second petals. Wrap petals Numbers 1 and 3 around to form the next row of petals, (positioned over petals 2 and 4 of the first stage.) Then Numbers 2, 4 and 5 to form the last row. Pinch the last three petals back. This is now at the mid stage.
For the last row, roll out some more paste. Cut out, soften edges and place on the foam. Cup each petal, then turn over and cup in the center so that each petal cups away from you. Stick this onto the mid stage with petals Numbers 1 and 3 forming the next row, and petals 2, 4 and 5 forming the last. Hang upside down and leave for a few minutes so that the petals dry slightly, then pinch into position.
You can leave the rose at this stage with the calyx on or continue making five wired petals, if putting this last layer of petals onto the rose, roll your paste over the CelBoard, cut out 5xRP2A, (RP3 for large rose. These are the two largest size rose petal cutters in the set.) Insert 28g white wire that has been dipped in egg white about half way up the petal, make longer and wider using the med. pin, soften edge, cup with the round end of the XL pin on the soft side of the CelPad, (ridge side down.) Next curl petal edges back using the small modelling tool, dry over a foil former, let dry, assemble around the rose.
Calyx
Taking a number 9 ball of green
paste press into the med. hole on the coated side of the CelPad,
roll across with a med. pin, remove
and turn over, cut out using a 2" calyx cutter,
(2.5" for large
rose.) Make each of the five points
slightly longer by rolling with the large CelStick, feather head
and legs with fine scissors, brush
silk
white dusting powder (petal dust) over the top of the calyx, brush
egg
white at the base of the rose and
slide the calyx up the wire, using toothpick
mark the ovary and
curl the calyx back on itself.
Rose Bud
If you are making a spray of roses
I often make these very tight buds.
Take a 229 wire using 1/2 width green floral tape, 10xHx10. Number 8 to 10 size paste, brush egg white on floral tape bud, insert into ball. Mold into a long cone shape, pinch the top like "Mickey Mouse Ears." Wrap around, forming a spiral, (left hand "ear" then right.) Roll out some paste, cut RP2A or RP3 petals, (two are required.) Soften edge and attach to the first stage in a spiral. Calyx as the rose.
Rose Leaves
Roll number 12 green paste over
the three ridges of the CelBoard.
Roll up and roll down, remove and
turn over, cut out rose leaves. (When cutting out small and
med. leaves, cut the med. size at
the base of the ridge, roll up, then cut small leaves at the top.)
Dip a 289 green wire into egg white
and insert about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way up the leaf.
Mold around base, lay flat side
on poinsettia veiner or the multi-purpose
veiner and press on the
back with foam, place onto soft
side of CelPad, (ridge side towards
you.) Soften edge with med.
pin, turn over on foam and vein
down center with the veining tool.
Dry on crumbled aluminum foil, once
dry tape together with 1/2 width green tape.
Petal
dust color of choice is dusted on and then the leaves brushed with
shortening (for shine).
