Double-Sided Molds
Roll fondant or other medium to 1/8" thick. Place between lace
mold pieces and press. Roll with rolling pin, remove excess dough.
Lace is ready to use. Stick lace to fondant iced cake with Piping gel.

As far as spacing goes I use a compass (you know the thing you use in geometry in school with the pencil in it?) I put something in there besides a pencil (don't want to be sued for led poisoning you know!) and separate the two points as far apart as I want the pearls and just put little holes in the icing where the pearls go. But if the bride wants them random, I just eyeball it.
If you make the pearls out of fondant yourself, you will be able to put wires through them if you need to. I bought the box of pearls from Dolores, so they are real hard and I couldn't do that if I wanted to.
When rolled in dry dust they were pretty and looked kinda sparkly.... but with the lemon extract they look more pearled like real pearls.
I rolled mine around in super pearl
dust with lemon extract and they are really beautiful and real looking.
It's a little tricky getting the
right proportions of liquid and dust. If too much liquid it doesn't coat...
as the liquid evaporates it tends to get a little "clumpy" so you have
to keep adding extract to keep it liquid enough
PJ says: I airbrushed mine
with grain alcohol and pearl dust, it uses a whole lot less dust that way
and you get the same effect.
QUESTION: if you use pearl
dust and grain alcohol (is that Ever clear?), can you clean the pearl
dust out with the cleaner and it's
fine for going back to do regular
colors? I was afraid I might not be able to get it cleaned out enough if
I tried it. Also, does the pearl dust clog the needle? If not, what proportions
do you use for the alcohol/pearl dust?
ANSWER: Yep, I just clean my brush
out and off I go to other colors
From Marida: I just roll out a piece of fondant, use a tube (usually #10 or #12) and cut out loads of them. I roll them in my hand, put them onto paper plates until I get a lot of them. then I put them into a small jar, add about 1/8 tsp. of pearl dust, shake them up and put them away until I need them. Pearls on cakes is big this year.
