PLASTER MOLDING using candy molds

SUGARCRAFT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE |HOME | LIST OF CANDY MOLDS PAGES |
These molds were created to be used with plaster. This is why there are directions for that. But of course, DO use them for plaster if you want. But I was thinking more of using them to make fast easy faces. Either using chocolate or fondant. There is a face for each member of the family so enjoy! Be sure to check out the 'family tree'- add the faces. Great gift for Grandma or grandpa - and what about family reunions! Dolores
Use any chocolate or hard candy mold for plaster. . Here are the instructions.
WARNING: DO NOT ever use the same molds used for plaster, for food! Plaster is toxic.
Please Read All Instructions before beginning.
Plaster that has been mixed with water can not be saved for use later.
DO NOT pour Plaster down sink or any other drain.
General Instructions for small items: IDEAS BELOW
Using Craft Plaster you can get at any craft supply store, K-Mart etc.
To make Plaster Warm Water
4-6 faces  2 tablespoons 1 tablespoon
2-3 faces 1 tablespoon 1/2 tablespoon
Below find pictures and ideas. The little 'people' molds are HERE. Or use any smallish candy mold. Make refrigerator magnets and so much more!
1. For easy release of plaster pieces, the mold should be lubricated. Run mold under water; then tap out excess water before adding mixed plaster. Or for extra lubrication on detailed designs, you may rub a small amount of vegetable oil in design area before adding mixed plaster.

2. Following chart above, mix the desired amount of plaster and warm water into a small disposable cup with a disposable spoon. Stir until smooth, like thin pancake batter. Spoon plaster into individual faces. Do not overfill molds.

3.Tap mold lightly on edges to bring air bubbles to surface. If you get plaster on your hands or arms, wash off with soap and water.

4. Let plaster dry in mold for 1 to 1 1/2 hours before removing. It should be firm to the touch but still feel damp.

5.Turn tray over and pop plaster pieces out.

6. Put plaster pieces on a paper towel and place in a microwave on low or defrost setting. Never use medium or high setting. Never microwave the plastic tray mold. Microwave 3 minutes. Let cool 1 minute. Do not skip the cooling time. Repeat this process two more times.

7.Alternative: If you do not microwave, air dry time is 24 hours depending on humidity.

8. You are now ready to paint or decorate your plaster pieces.

NOTE: You can also mold plaster in Pantastic cake pans (as kitty shown above) in this same manner.
There are many styles to choose from including animals etc.
You will need to make up the whole bag of plaster.
One 10 pound bag makes 3 pans filled with plaster.
Mix plaster according to directions on bag.
Tint the plaster using acrylic colors, not food coloring.
Fill pans and let set 24 hours; unmold.
These make great stepping stones or headstones for pets!
Do not use these pans for cakes after use with plaster. Plaster is toxic.
