FAQ page for KOPYJET® Printers

All you need is a compatible printer, edible inks and edible paper.  We supply all of these.  As far as clip art goes, you can find tons of it on the web. But most people will bring you a photo to copy! So why pay extra for something you can get for free.  Canon creative software comes with all Canon printers.

Photo processing software is inexpensive and available here.  With some brands of frosting sheets, directions will be included (and possibly needed for circles and busininess card shapes!) Most photos can be printed directly from the scanner software without the need for further processing.

Warranties Cannon is backing away from warranty obligations on printer units used with edible color cartridges. We understand this. Many people have attempted to use air brush food colors & other concoctions in order to save pennies by refilling cartridges. Canon has decided that they no longer wish to foot the bill (warranty replacement of print heads) for this foolishness. Ergo, a blanket moratorium on warranty for printers used with edible colors.

Sheets getting stuck in your printer & tearing? I learned something too! (From Dolores)
IF a frosting sheet gets stuck coming through the printer, and starts tearing holes in it, DO NOT try another sheet! You have to get the piece out first. I found out that if I just turn the printer off and wait for the frosting sheet piece to get dry it'll roll right out when you turn the printer off/on. BUT - then you have to find out WHY it stuck in the first place!

Since I print hundreds of sheets, both frosting sheets and wafer paper, maybe you don't have this problem that I do.  After many months of using the printer daily, it 'gummed' up. There is a small shiny roller you can easily see turning when you lift the printer lid with the printer on. It is about 1/16" and you will see it roll as you lift the lid. I could see that the roller had a lot of black goop on it. I tried scraping it with my finger nail and then with a nail file. It still wasn't clean. So I thought of the Print Head cleaning kit. (I'd never used it and maybe I should have!)

I rubbed the "RECONDITIONER" across the roller. The goop just fell off! I doubt that some of the really dry stuff would have. I'd already gotten it off with the nail file. It takes time and patience. Try a print test once in awhile too. There are going to be little pieces in the printer. Then align the print heads. (I also cleaned the print head according to the directions in the cleaning kit - THEN black wouldn't print at all - refilled the cart. still not printing. I changed to a new black cart. and it printed fine. I do have an idea that the wafer paper may be the culprit. For one thing, you have to give it more ink with wafer paper to get any kind of quality.

From my message board:

Edible picture problems....
My red turns out orange. I printed the picture on my regular color printer and the color is fine, however the red is orange when using the food ink cartridges and associated printer. I do have a new printhead, but don't really think that is the problem. Is there any way I might solve this?

michelle h.
Did you check the bottom of the color ink cartridge? Are they clearly magenta, cyan, and yellow? Sometimes one color drips and then contaminates the others (in your case, the yellow is probably the culprit). This happened to me a few times especially when I was using refilled cartridges - I would occasionally overfill one or more colors. I also once got a bad cartridge from Kopykake, where the yellow was contaminated by the blue color so that it was green.

If that is not the problem, and you need to get a picture done now, try adjusting the colors of your picture using iPhoto express or whatever photo editing software you are using. This is assuming that all your other colors are printing out fine. It may be frustrating though. Print out a solid red circle on plain paper(small so you don't waste ink). If it comes out orange, go to the color adjusting feature, decrease the yellow and increase the red (make a note of what changes you made). Print out the circle again. Keep doing this till you get to the right shade, always taking note of what hues you had to adjust.
Then on your actual picture, select the red portions, and make the same color adjustments to those parts. Your coloration will look really off on the screen but will hopefully print out correctly.

Valerie (VA)
I had this happen several times and each time I had to do a printhead cleaning and test each color several times before I got the heads clean. I talked with Rudy at Kopykake and he told me to also check and see if they're clogged by going to your sink and lifting up the label area on the cartridge and gently blowing on the "hole" underneath. The ink should blow/drip into your sink. I had to do this several times because the ink had not gone to the head and was dry. hope this helps!

From Dolores
If the printer stops printing try these things:
1. Make sure the ink tanks are full
2. Is the ink down in the sponge? If not, tap the end of the tank firmly on the table to make the ink run down into the sponge. Finally, give it a firm tap or two with the opening down, on the table.
3. Remove the tanks and the head. Turn the head over and wipe with alchahol using a soft cloth. If you find it to be very dirty, place the head with alchohol in a container so that alchol barely covers the head. Don't touch the electronics on the back of the head! Soak it clean and let it dry and try again.
If nothing works, you may need to replace the printhead. But I figure that if cleaning makes a difference, the head must still be good. You can get printheads at an office supply store where ink cartridges are sold.

1. Kopyjet system requirements
Pentium 100Mhz processor or better 32 megs of RAM (64 meg recommended) 16 bit graphics card or better CDROM 2X speed or better Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 160 megs of available hard drive space

See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section

3. Compatible printer specifications:
Power Supply – All printers were produced with USA 110 VAC and all current systems have the option of 220 VAC.

Resolution – In general the resolution of the current printers are 720 x 720 dpi. The older units, Canon BJC-4400 and Canon BJC-4550, were limited to 720 x 360 dpi. Many of these models are advertised as having higher resolution, but these higher numbers are applicable only under specific printing situation. Refer to User's Manual for clarification.

Printable area – In general the printable area on the Bubble Jet printers is 8.0" x 10.73". In all cases it exceeds the frosting coverage on the sheets, which in the case of the KJFS0811 is 7.5" x 10". The large format printers also have the capability of a 10.5" x 16.23" printable area on the tabloid setting - again larger than the 10" x 16" frosting coverage. Refer to User's Manual for clarification.

4. Scanmaker X6 specifications:
Scanning Area - 8.5" x 11.7" Resolution – 600 x 1200 dpi Scanning Modes – 36 Bit Color, 16 Bit Grey Scale, 1 Bit Black & White PC Interface – Parallel or USB

For additional information refer to the "Microtek ScanWizard / View Manual" selection on the CD supplied with the unit. There is more information here than you could possibly need.

5. Is the Kopyjet system NSF certified?
Yes.
6. Are the Kolor Kartridges and Frosting Sheets FDA and EEC approved?
Yes.
7. Are the Kolor Kartridges and Frosting Sheets Kosher?
Yes.

8. Can a Macintosh system be used with the Kopyjet system?
Yes. There are some important issues however. Currently the only parallel port printer that can interface with the Mac is the Canon BJC-4550. This interface is made via a data cable supplied from INFOWAVE (see www.infowave.com). Unfortunately the Canon BJC-4550 printer is no longer produced, but some models may still be available.

The Canon BJC-6000, now available with the Kopyjet system, is compatible with the Mac. This interface is made via a data cable supplied from CANON.

9. Why is my system running so slowly?
Regardless of a computer's processor speed, if the RAM on the computer is full, the processing time will slow down considerably. The saturation of the available RAM is normally caused by a very large picture created when too high a resolution is used when scanning. The higher the resolution, the larger your picture file will be. For instance, an 8.5" x 11" color photograph scanned at 75 dpi takes up about 1.6 megabytes (MB). Doubling resolution to 150 dpi will increase the file size four times – to approximately 6.3 MB. Going to 300 dpi will increase file size to 26.2 MB!

What you need to do then is to select the lowest possible resolution that still gives you good picture quality in order to keep file size manageable. Our recommendation is not to go any higher than 200 dpi unless you specifically require the resolution and are knowledgeable in picture processing.

10. Where can I get a current driver for my printer? & How often should I update my driver?
CANON recommends that customers update their drivers every 6 months. The drivers may be downloaded from this website or from www.ccsi.canon.com . In either case follow the directions below:

An "Install From Disk" screen will come up and "A:\" will appear in the box labeled "Copy manufacturer's files from:" Delete the "A:\" and type "C:\BJDisk" (without quotes). Click on "OK".

Select your printer from the list and click "Next".

Select the port you want to use with your printer and click "Next".

Select whether you want your printer to be the default printer and click "Finish".

Files will be transferred from directory on your hard drive.

After the driver is finished installing you will be asked if you want to perform a self test. If you select yes, make sure you have paper in the printer and after a few moments a test page will print out.

Scanner Questions – Kopyjet

1. What scanners will work with the Kopyjet system?
Kopykake offers the Kopyjet system with a scanner. There is no requirement however to use this scanner. Any scanner that can digitally scan an picture and transmit that picture to the graphics software program can be used with the Kopyjet system. Keep in mind also that any digital picture, from a digital camera, e-mail, etc., can be used.

2. Scanmaker X6 specification:
See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section

3. What DPI should I use?
See General Kwik-KopySpecifications and Requirements section "Why is my system running so slowly?"

4. When I select scan the computer tells me that it cannot locate the scanner. What do I do?
The causes for this error message range from something as simple as an incorrect boot-up sequence to complex SCSI device conflicts. Fortunately, most of the problems are of the less complex. The following corrective steps are listed in the order that we recommend you trouble shoot the system. The steps cover the simple most common causes first and then proceed to the more complex and less common.

1 Ensure that the scanner is on and the cables are securely attached.

2 Ensure that the graphics software has been set up to select the proper source (the desired scanner). In the case of Iphoto Express select, <FILE>, <ACQUIRE>, <SELECT SOURCE> and select the proper scanner.

3 Turn off the computer and the scanner. After both units are shut down turn on the scanner and wait until the green light on the front of the scanner has stopped blinking and remains solid. Now turn the computer on and retry. In order for the computer to recognize the scanner it must be able to "see" the scanner on boot-up. Hence the scanner must be on when the computer is in boot-up.

4 Select Windows <START>, <PROGRAM FILES>, <MICROTEK SCAN WIZARD FOR…>, <DYNAICON>. This may enable the computer to locate the scanner.

5 If none of the above steps were successful, you should try reloading the scanner driver. Do not forget to uninstall the software first via the Windows uninstall. You must also manually delete the following folder C:\Windows\Twain_32 prior to reinstalling the scanner software. Further solutions are beyond the scope of this FAQ section but information is available in most scanner user manuals. For additional information on the Microtek X6, refer to the "Microtek ScanWizard / View Manual" selection on the CD supplied with the unit.

5. Where are the directions for the Microtek scanner?
Refer to the "Microtek ScanWizard / View Manual" selection on the CD supplied with the unit. Also, be aware that the answers or procedures you may be looking for are actually answered in the graphics software directions. The Ulead Iphoto Express directions are available on the Kopykake CD that was supplied with the system or Start Kit. To see Ulead Iphoto Express tutorial, you must first install Adobe Acrobat Reader, also available on the CD, to view the tutorial.

Printer Questions – Kopyjet

1. What printers will work with the Kopyjet system?
See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section

2. Why does my printer print off the frosting sheet?
In most cases the over print is caused by an incorrectly sized and positioned picture. For directions on how to properly size and position scanned pictures, refer to the Ulead Iphoto Express directions available on the Kopykake CD that was supplied with the system or Start Kit. To see the Ulead Iphoto Express tutorial you must first install Adobe Acrobat Reader, also available on the CD.

3. Why does my printer start printing in the middle of the page or too far from the top?
In most cases the bad alignment is caused by an incorrectly sized and positioned picture. For directions on how to properly size and position scanned pictures, refer to the Ulead Iphoto Express directions available on the Kopykake CD that was supplied with the system or Start Kit. To see Ulead Iphoto Express tutorial you must first install Adobe Acrobat Reader, also available on the CD.

Another possibility is that the Frosting Sheet has been fed too far down into the printer prior to printing. The Frosting Sheet should sit on the horizontal guides prior to printing. If the Frosting Sheets are allowed to slip down into the print rollers, the printer will misfeed. Generally you should be able to look down along the frosting side of the sheet and see the edge of the backing paper directly below the rest of the sheet. The backing paper should not curve into the printer.

Ensure that you have the correct printer driver. See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section.

Check that the your picture size (in MBs) is not too large. See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section. "Why is my system running so slowly?"

4. Why is my printer printing so slowly?
Printer speed may be limited by the speed of the processor. However, it is possible to improve the print speed by closing the print preview window after the printer has started.

Changing the port setting in the BIOS to ECP/EPP may help but it is beyond the scope of these FAQs.

Printer and Print head Questions General

1. Why do my pictures have lines running through them?
Print head malfunctions are usually manifested in what we refer to as "banding". Banding is the presence of lines running left and right across the printed page. Normally the lines are approximately 1/8th" wide and may be white or some color other than the intended. The banding is a result of the edible ink drying in the print head and restricting the flow of ink to the picture. To eliminate the banding, the print head should be cleaned.

2. How do I clean the print head?
The print head should be cleaned using an Ink Jet Cleaning Kit. These kits are available at most computer stores and from Kopykake. If a cleaning kit is not available, a rag with hot water may be used. Both methods are used to clean the actual printer nozzles located on the bottom of the print head. The nozzle are found by removing the print head from the printer and turning the print head over and find the small shiny black band (1/4" x ½") with a 1/32" channel running down the center.

3. How do I test that print head is operating correctly?
Once the print head has been cleaned and/or the cartridges reset, the best way to test the system is to run a demonstration page (4300,4400, 4550) or a print test page (BJC 2000, 5000, 5100). Both test pages can be found under your printer property page. In both tests, the color bands should not have white lines running left to right across the color swatch or windows logo. If white lines do appear reattempt the cleaning.

On the BJC-6000 a nozzle test may be run by holding down the resume button until the units beeps twice and the BJC-2000 series by depressing the button 2 times. On the BJC-3000 you press and hold down the resume button until the green light flashes twice, and then release. There should not be any breaks in the matrix except at the extreme top and bottom edges of each color.

In all cases refer to the user manual for additional information.

4. How do I know if I am out of ink?
BC21E - The typical indication of an empty ink cartridge is a very rapid degradation of print quality. The exhausted color will run out in the course of a single print. If the degradation happens more slowly or far earlier than expected, the ink cartridge may be malfunctioning but not empty or the printhead may be malfunctioning. If the ink cartridges appear to prematurely run out of ink. remove the gray cartridges from the printhead and tap them on the table with the open whole facing down toward the table. Ensure that you have some paper to protect the table from the ink that will splash out of the ports. This action encourages the ink and sponges to reset in the bottom of the cartridge prolonging the life of the cartridge. Additionally, if the color cartridge is not completely snapped into the printhead, the blue ink may not print.

Caution: Do not tap the bottom of the black printhead.

BC30,31 – Look at the cartridge. After the ink well (without sponge) is empty, there is approximately 15 - 20 prints remaining.

5. Why are my ink cartridges running out of ink prior to producing 35 copies?
The typical indication of an empty ink cartridge is a very rapid degradation of print quality. The exhausted color will run out in the course of a single print. If the degradation happens more slowly or far earlier than expected, the ink cartridge may be malfunctioning but not empty or the print head may be malfunctioning. If the ink cartridges appear to prematurely run out of ink. remove the gray cartridges from the print head and tap them on the table with the open whole facing down toward the table. Ensure that you have some paper to protect the table from the ink that will splash out of the ports. This action encourages the ink and sponges to reset in the bottom of the cartridge prolonging the life of the cartridge. Additionally, if the color cartridge is not completely snapped into the print head, the blue ink may not print. Caution: Do not tap the bottom of the black print head.

6. Why are my colors too light or inaccurate?
Light or inaccurate colors are normally caused by print head or ink cartridge malfunctions. In some cases an incorrect or out of date printer drivers may causes similar problems. See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section for driver information.

7. What is the life expectancy of the print head?
Print heads normally last about 6 months to 1 year or 40 cartridges. A spare print head is highly recommended.

8. How should the print head be stored?
Normally the print head should be left in the printer. Only if the printer is not going to be used for more than a week, should the print head be removed from the printer and stored in the plastic case supplied with the system. Never remove the ink cartridges from the print head unless you are replacing them with new cartridges or performing maintenance on the existing cartridges. In both cases, minimize the amount of time the print head is exposed without cartridges installed.

9. My printer goes through the motions as if it is printing but nothing prints on the paper. What is wrong?
The print head has either failed or is unable to communicate with the printer. A failed print head will need to be replaced. The communication problem can sometimes be solved by cleaning the gold contacts on the side of the print head and on the inside of the print head carriage with a pencil eraser. Be gentle, and do not touch either contact area with your fingers.

10. When I try to print my printer begins to beep and the light(s) flash(s). What is the problem?
The beeping of the printer normally indicates that the printer or the print head has malfunctioned. In general the more beeps the more severe the problem. Refer to the user's guide for details.

11. When I try to align the print head on my BJC-5000 series printer, a warning indicates that the black cartridge is out of ink. Why?
A bug in the Canon driver software causes this erroneous warning when using the edible inks. The bug may also prevent the printer from printing black after the warning in order to protect the print head. Do not run the print head alignment. If you are at the point where the printer is giving you the warning, unplug the printer for 10 seconds and start over without accepting the request to align.

12. Why does my printer always (or sometimes) feed a sheet through the printer prior to starting a print job?
The Frosting Sheet has been fed too far down into the printer prior to printing. The Frosting Sheet should sit on the horizontal guides prior to printing. If the Frosting Sheets are allowed to slip down into the print rollers the printer will misfeed. Generally you should be able to look down along the frosting side of the sheet and see the edge of the backing paper directly below the rest of the sheet. The backing paper should not curve into the printer.

3. What is the shelf life of the frosting sheet?
1 year

4. Will the frosting Sheets meld into frosting that has set for a day or more?
If the frosting on the cake appears dry or crusty, apply a fine mist of water onto the cake top before applying the Frosting Sheet. This can be achieved with an airbrush.

5. With what types and brands of frosting do Kopykake Frosting Sheets work best?
Fresh Buttercream or Non-Dairy topping.

6. What do I do if the Frosting Sheets will not come off the backing sheet?
Leave the picture out in normal room conditions for about 5 – 15 minutes. Drying time depends on ambient humidity and the amount of ink printed on the sheet. In some cases the humidity may be high enough that the frosting sheets will not release from the paper after the normal drying period. In these conditions we recommend that you use a blow dryer (or any other hot air supply) on the reverse side of the backing sheet on high hot for 30-40 seconds. This method is very reliable and will solve your release problems. The process may need to be repeated. The only reason the frosting sheets will not come off the backing paper is that the frosting sheet is still too wet, The darker the picture or the higher the humidity the longer it will take the sheet to dry for a satisfactory release.

7. What do I do if the Frosting Sheets are dry and brittle?
If the Frosting Sheets are dry and brittle they have been dried out. This condition is normally caused by a faulty zip-lock bag or a users failure to close the bag after removing a sheet. The sheets may be re-humidified if you have some way of placing them in a humid environment. Do not place brittle sheets Frosting Sheets into a printer. They will break off during printing and jam the unit.

8. Can the Frosting Sheet be stored after printing?
Yes. Leave the picture on the backing sheet and place it back in a zip-lock bag. You may choose to dry the picture before or after storage.

9. Why do bubbles appear on the frosting sheet when it has sat overnight?
In most of the cases we have seen, the bubbles are caused by moisture coming up from below the Frosting Sheet. The best preventative measures are to use the recommended frosting and store the picture covered in a cool dry place.

10. Why do cracks appear on the picture?
If the cake is allowed to flex during transportation, wrinkles or cracks may appear depending in whether the picture was compressed or stretched. Using a double board, especially on the half sheet cakes, will help eliminate this problem.

11. Are the Frosting Sheets FDA approved?
Yes.
12. Are the Frosting Sheets Kosher?
Yes.

4. How do I know if I am out of ink?
BC21E - The typical indication of an empty ink cartridge is a very rapid degradation of print quality. The exhausted color will run out in the course of a single print.

BC30,31 – Look at the cartridge. After the ink well (without sponge) is empty, there is approximately 15 - 20 prints remaining.

5. Can I refill my cartridges?
Yes. We currently have a Kolor Kartridge Refill Kit available to refill your Kolor Kartridges.

3. The disk should auto start when placed in your computer. Follow the instruction outlined in your OPEN ME FIRST PACKAGE to complete the installation.

According to the CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES, the National Sanitation Foundation International (NSF) certification programs contain the only related standards accredited by ANSI. Also according to the CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES, There are currently no standards, NSF or otherwise, that govern the use of an ink jet printer in food preparation. Therefore, as stated in the California Uniform Retail Food Facilities Law, the approval for the use of an ink jet printer for food preparation remains at no higher than the county level in California and possibly at the state level in other areas.

Based on this information there is no national or international level sanitation standards or certification currently available for an ink jet printer. We are however currently participating in a review of the KOPYJET™ and KWIK KOPY™ systems with the CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES. The results of this review will not create a standard nor will it change the level of approval authority. It will however serve as documentation that according to the CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES, the reviewed products do not pose a health hazard.

In the interim please keep in mind the following points: All frosting and ink ingredients are FDA approved, all materials that come in contact with the edible portion of the product, backing paper, ink cartridges, cartridge filling and printer rollers, are FDA approved.

How often should I update my driver?

CANON recommends that customers update their drivers every 6 months. The drivers may be downloaded from this website or from www.ccsi.canon.com . In either case follow the directions below:

From the download screen select Color Bubble Jet Printer and Select Model on pull down menu.

Select SUBMIT

From the printer specific download page select Download in One Self-extracting File.

From the windows file download page that appears select Save This Program to Disk

From the save as screen write down the download location of the file.

Select SAVE

After file has down loaded find the file using windows explorer.

Double click on the file icon.

From the DOS screen select option 2. Expand to file on hard disk. The file will self extract to C:\BJDisk

After self extraction START -> SETTINGS ->PRINTERS.

Double Click (or single click in 98 if that option is active) the "Add Printer Icon".

Click the "Next" button until you get to the screen that asks for "Manufacturer" and "Printer".

From this screen select the "Have Disk" button.

Cartridges fit these Cannon printers: Some listed require 1 cart. for 3 colors and a black one. Others require a cartridge for each color and a black one. The new S9000 has one cart. for each color and more. Be sure to purchase the cartridges that fit your printer model!
BJC 2000 2100 4200 4300 4400 3000 6000 S400 S450 5000 5100 i320 S400 S450 S600 S520 S750 BJCI-21

See General Kopyjet Specifications and Requirements section

2. Why Canon printers and not Epson or HP? We use Canon printer compatible cartridges for a couple of reasons.  One is the HP cartridges are also the
print head.  So to use them it would be necessary to empty out the cartridge and clean it and refill it with edible ink.  There is no way to get all of the ink out of the foam in the cartridges.  Also, they are not made from food grade plastics.  In the case of the Epson printers, they make too many styles of print cartridges for it to be economical to make food grade cartridges for them.

Yes

12. Are the Frosting Sheets Kosher?

Yes

Kolor Kartridges

1. How many sheets can I print with a set of cartridges?

BC21E (BJC 2000,4400,4550,5000,5100)- 35 to 40 prints
BC30,31 (BJC 3000,6000) – 100 –120 prints

2. Are the inks and cartridges FDA approved?

Yes

3. Are the inks and cartridges Kosher

Yes

4. How do I know if I am out of ink?

BC21E - The typical indication of an empty ink cartridge is a very rapid degradation of print quality. The exhausted color will run out in the course of a single print.

<Tech Tip>
Vacuum Lock
You took out the cartridges & cleaned the print head thoroughly. You know for sure the
head is clean & good, and there is color still in the cartridges but you can't get
all the colors to flow. Why?!!
Here's a possible reason why:
The printer drew all the color out of the wick & lower part of the internal sponge. It is
drawing only air through the sponge and vent hole. There is still fluid (color) in the
upper part of the sponge (21 series) or reservoir (30 series) but there is an air gap around
the wick. Just like a siphon, there must be fluid throughout to maintain the draw.
If you get a large bubble in your siphon hose you will lose your siphon.
The cure:
If you have our Refill Set you can inject Genuine PhotoFrost Color into the wick, re-
saturating it & the sponge behind it to reestablish fluid flow. This is also a good time
to top off the cartridges.  If you don't have our Refill Set use purified water. Inject 1cc. It
may take an extra test print (on paper) to get color back but it should work.
Incidentally, this is also one reason replacing empties with new cartridges is better- the new
ones are fully saturated.
Remember: If you have refilled a set of cartridges more than 3 times there is significant
particle buildup throughout the internal sponge. Excessive buildup can cause
unreliable performance & degraded quality. After 4 rounds a cartridge set has given plenty
of service & value. We suggest you dispose of it & replace with new.
Here's what Michelle did when colors wouldn't print correctly - and she knew she wasn't out of food coloring!:

I tried soaking the heads in a saucer of warm water. I still had nothing. Yesterday I decided to run hot water through the nozzle of the head. I held
it under the hot faucet and ran water through from the topside for a minute or so. Got the blue and black to work, but no red or yellow. At this
point I was desperate, and was faced with buying new printheads anyway, so what did I have to lose? I soaked them in vinegar for about an hour,
and sure enough, there were flecks of magenta floating around it it before long. I then rinsed the heck out of them with hot water again, dried them
off, resaturated my sponges, and FINALLY everything worked again.

From Noona:
Today, after putting in new cartidges and getting no print out at all, I called the manufacturer and was told that I needed to clean the print
head. Duh! They told me that I needed to do this at least once a month, or the print head gets clogged. I don't believe I'd ever done it once. I had
a cake to do by 3 pm so I had no time to run out and get another print head and it was so deeply clogged I would need a new one. The tech guy
then told me to try sitting the print head in hot distilled water, without getting the computer chip wet. Well, I did that and voila! The print head
became unclogged in a matter of minutes and I have color again and my printer is running like brand new!
